Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani
 

      

The Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani is a globally renowned premier Institute of higher education deemed to be a university. It is privately supported, and co-educational. The primary objectives of the Institute are: “to provide for and otherwise promote education and research in the fields of Technology, Science, Humanities, Industry, Business and Public Administration as well as to create and disseminate in these fields effective ideas, methods, techniques and information as are likely to promote the material and industrial welfare of India” and to “train young men and women able and eager to create and put into action such ideas, methods, techniques and information.”  BITS has been ranked amongst top Indian universities and has been recently ranked amongst top 20 Asian Institutes of higher learning in the UNESCO Science Report, 2005, and is the first choice of students aspiring for higher education in India. BITS take pride in its Alumni who have excelled in almost every walk of life across the globe. The Institute was established in 1964 as a premier Institute of Knowledge, bringing into reality the dream of its Founder Chairman Late Shri G. D. Birla, the top industrialist of India. Flourishing under guidance of Chancellor Dr. K.K. Birla, the Institute has spread its establishment to three more campuses at Dubai, Goa, and Hyderabad. Plan to develop more campuses are afoot.

The Institute had with the help of Ford Foundation grant during 1964 to 1970, the advantage of having collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. Presently BITS is the Institutional member of several prestigious International and National Associations & Bodies like Association of Commonwealth of Universities, London, World Association for Cooperative Education, Boston, USA, International Association of Universities, Paris, International Council for Open and Distance Education, Oslo, Norway, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi, India, and so on. The Institute has collaborative arrangements with University of Oklahoma, Tulane University, Purdue University, George Washington University, University of Windsor to name a few. 

BITS is well equipped with hi-tech infrastructure and laboratories which have got constant support and sponsorship from multi-national giants like Motorola, TATA-IBM , Cisco, Nokia and several others. BITS has established collaborative research and off-campus programs with several industries, like Cadila Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Hetero Drugs Ltd., Torrent Pharmaceuticals, Alembic Ltd, Strides Arcolab Ltd., IPCA Labs, Microsoft Research India, HP Lab India, Hindustan Zinc Ltd. etc. UGC, CSIR, AICTE, DST, Humboldt foundation and other sponsoring organizations have sponsored various ongoing research projects at BITS Pilani.
The Vice chancellor Dr. L. K. Maheshwari is forging ahead making a sincere efforts to keep pace with the modern global demands by transforming the old syllabus into well designed curriculum for all departments, introducing the most modern technique of imparting education, encouraging high quality research work. The rich collection of books in the library, journals of academic value speaks volume for the university. Despite its location in a backward region the alumni of BITS Pilani are on par with the best national and international platform.

TRAVEL TO PILANI
Location & Climate

Pilani is a small town, located on the fringes of the shifting sands of the Thar, in the desert state of Rajasthan in India at Latitude 028°37’ North and Longitude 075°75’ East.  The climate of Pilani is generally dry and pleasant. Summer temperatures normally peak at 45°C. In winter, temperatures may drop to 0°C. Annual rainfall is about 30 cm. In February the temperature ranges between 10°C to 30°C. It is about 200 km West of Delhi and about 220 km North of Jaipur, which are nearest International Airports from Pilani.

Pilani can be reached by road.

Traveling by Bus: There are regular bus services between Delhi and Pilani and between Jaipur and Pilani.  The buses leave Delhi from Inter-State Bus Terminus "Kashmere Gate", and Jaipur from Rajasthan State Roadways Bus Stand "Sindhi Camp".
Traveling by car/taxi from Delhi: It takes about 4-4.5 hours. There are four different routes:
   Delhi-Jhajhar-Dadri-Loharu-Pilani.
   Delhi-Rohtak-Bhiwani-Loharu-Pilani. 
   Delhi-Gurgaon-Dharuheda-Riwari-Narnaul-Singhana-Chirawa-Pilani.
   Delhi-Gurgaon-Dharuheda-Riwari-Mahendragrh-Satnali-Loharu-Pilani.

Traveling by car/taxi from Jaipur: It takes about 5 hrs. Route is:
       Jaipur-Chomu-Reengas-Sikar-Nawalgarh-Jhunjhunu-Chirawa-Pilani.

FOR OVERSEAS TRAVELERS
Visa and Travel Arrangements: All overseas delegates are requested to apply to the nearest Indian Embassy/Consulate for getting their visa. Upon request, the organizers can send an invitation letter for visa purposes.

Place of Tourists Attraction:

Delhi, Jaipur, Udaipur and Agra are very close to Pilani (4-6 hr journey by road).

 

 SYMPOSIUM THEME AND SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACT, AWARDS AND CORRESSPONDENCE

 

 

The boundaries of scientific disciplines in the present time are dilapidating and a close interaction and overlapping techniques becoming inevitable for further development of knowledge and application of knowledge for mankind. In the present context the interface of chemistry and biology is of prime importance for realization of knowledge to applications in post genomic and proteomics era. The main theme of the present conference comprises understanding the need of chemistry-biology interface and its potential for the innumerable possible application in biomedical, healthcare, drug development, marine science etc. The conference aims to provide an opportunity and platform for discussion, interaction and further collaboration among scientists from diverse fields. A series of symposia are planned to cover broad areas of research interest. Presentations of original research work in the following areas are invited:

(i)    Medicinal Chemistry, Phytochemistry, Nutraceutical and marine organism.
(ii)   Combinatorial Chemistry, High-throughput Screening and Drug Discovery.
(iii)  Supramolecular chemistry, QSAR, Bioinformatics and In-silico biology
(iv)  Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology and Toxicology and clinical trials.
(v)   Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Cell Biology towards drug discovery.
(vi)  Biomedical applications of Instruments.
(vii) Process development in drug substances.
(viii) Intellectual property right issues and GLP related to drug research

 

 

 
   

BEST POSTER AWARDS

   

Best poster awards of Rs. 2,500 each and encouragement awards of Rs. 500 each in Chemical and Biological Sciences shall be presented to young researchers below the age of 35 who wish to compete. Authors, whose posters are adjudged as the best in the symposia, may be invited for a 15-minute oral presentation in a special awards session.


 
SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS

Abstracts not exceeding 250 words are invited for inclusion as podium (oral) or poster presentations in any of the sub areas/main topics of symposia. Please state the title, author(s), author affiliation and choice of mode (poster/podium). Indicate the name and date of birth of the presenting author if you would like to compete for the Best Poster Awards. Abstracts submitted for competition shall be assigned to the poster sessions. Confidential peer-review shall determine acceptance or rejection.

Abstracts, along with registration fees should reach Dr. Dalip Kumar; Convener ISCBC-2008 or Dr. P.M.S. Chauhan; Secretary, Indian Society of Chemists and Biologists, Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow - 226001, latest by 31st december, 2007. Acceptance shall be communicated by 15th January, 2008
